Some of our Favorite Halmahera Dive Sites
Ternate
Access: Boat | Dive type: Wreck | Depth: 30 meters | Current: Mild to Strong
Makian
Access: Boat | Dive type: Muck | Depth: 30 meters | Current: None to mild
Muck lovers? Explore the black sand diving of Makian, reminiscent of Lembeh Strait, offering superb macro diving opportunities teeming with fascinating critters like the infamous bobbit worms, frogfish, and even some cool walking sharks.
Bacan Island
Access: Boat | Dive type: Wall and canyons | Depth: 30 meters | Current: Mild to Strong
Visit an old Portuguese fort, assist in a traditional dancing and visit a local market. This beautiful excursion is organized by the Tourism Department of South Halmahera. Stunning wall diving and canyon dives are to be expected in this region. Warning: they are open to the ocean so we can expect some currents. It’s a coral haven down there though: soft corals, sea fans, and large coral heads decorate the coral gardens where you can see reef sharks, schools of barracudas and jacks, napoleons, and bumphead parrotfish.
Pantini Strait
Access: Boat | Dive type: Channel | Depth: 30 meters | Current: Mild to Strong
Goraici Islands
Access: Boat | Dive type: Slopes | Depth: 25 meters | Current: Mild to Medium
South Halmahera
Access: Boat | Dive type: Pinnacle | Depth: 30 meters | Current: Mild to Medium
